There’s time between sounds of laughter
Bites on elbows
Small cones covered in nut butter hanging from trees
And when the pool has been splashed about and a bit of its matter smears on to the pavement below the ropes
Crisp apparitions of motions playback amidst crackles
They wind their way to the skyline
Mimicking the young sillies dancing about
And aiming at yawns nestled between cartoon bejeweled sleeping capsules that don’t dissolve in water
Illustrated occurrences dazzle in the way that a drive in movie commands a blank screen to invoke entertainment in a space
Where there is nothing darkness hasn’t already touched
A sneeze from a stranger that welcomes itself to your fresh slice of pizza dangles milliseconds of moments from your taste buds There’s an empty pop machine,
A sandy can full of ashes,
There she sits engaged to the daily winged lullaby
Which gives birth to the orchestra conducted by pollywogs in full formal attire
Tapping their feet to the percussionesque aquatic pattering
She knows the story, her face transcribed in tactile lines
Perplexed moments captured as if snapped in a moment of aperture The rails recognize her touch as she moves about
Folding and relaying messages from the seraphs
Her commitment could rival the rings within the trunks of trees
On departure day she made tucked blue shirts realize what lies between
Her tears waved their solemn goodbyes
And her arms reached and held you close enough to her that
epoch welded itself among bountiful leaves that would soon turn and fall
Then return the following year as they do every year
About the Writer
Turyia Martin is the founder and CEO of Eye Amm Peace Productions, which proclaims the motto, “The Affirmation of a Visionary.” Martin’s personal mantra, “I can. I will. I triumph,” defines her spirit and determination. “Affirmation of a Visionary” stands for the ability to make intangible concepts converge with the mind’s eye, planting a seed that blossoms to produce vivid projections of the arts.
At age 24, the filmmaker and poet from Bedford Heights, Ohio also studies theater at Hampton University. A campus performance of And It Was Written, a play Martin wrote and produced, generated rave reviews.
Martin’s numerous accomplishments include documenting political efforts by area public figures, like Denise Kucinich; chronicling activities at a local camp that serves people with vision loss; and recording a golf tournament played at Linden Hall, the first course owned by an African-American. This list offers but a few of Martin’s contributions. She is legally blind.
