The Greatest Little Ski Town on Earth
Winter Park, Colorado & National Sports Center for the Disabled

Imagine driving for several miles with no snow in sight. The once distant mountains are now within your reach and out of nowhere the season has changed before your very eyes. Winter has taken over. The roads are now steeper and winding deeper up the mountains; nine-thousand feet to be exact. Just when you think there’s another turn around the corner, you reach your destination.

If it’s 134 trails, 2,762 skiable acres, a friendly atmosphere, a variety of shops/restaurants and picturesque views are what make a bonifide ski town, Winter Park is definitely one of them.

Scenery that looks to be taken right out of pages from a magazine; the breathtaking views are a treat in itself. Surrounded by snow covered mountains, the buildings themselves don’t even take away from nature’s raw form.

Not as well known as Vail or Breckenridge maybe, but Winter Park’s popularity is easily visible. The many skiers who have traveled a great distance to Winter Park to experience an ultimate winter vacation is an excellent sign in itself. Ranked 8th in the Top10 Must Ride Resorts in Transworld Snowboarding magazine is also nothing to sneeze at.

Inclusion at its best, Winter Park provides a place where people of all abilities can partake in the winter fun. Accessible lodging and transportation to and from the ski resort are available. Transportation arrangements can be made by your lodging representatives.

Home to the National Sports Center for the Disabled, it is the largest outdoor therapeutic recreation center in the world. With specially trained instructors and their own adaptive equipment lab, it goes beyond just being an adaptive ski school. Providing multiple programs in both winter and summer seasons; disabled individuals of all ages have a smorgasbord of activities available to them.

Having the ability to accommodate almost any disability, NSCD will also provide the equipment, lift pass and an excellent instructor to go along with your lesson. For those independent types, you may rent just the adaptive equipment.

The skiing experience is amazing at any level. All the views are spectacular, no matter what area of the mountain you ski. The beginner areas are segregated from the rest of the mountain making the learning area safe and accessible. Cornices, steep trees, and open powder bowl are just a few of the features that keep advanced skiers and hard core snowboarders coming back for more. Expect to see your fellow adaptive skiers riding along beside you; or see a mono skier speeding down the slopes.

If you want to visit a great little ski town, Winter Park is the place to be. The days will be spent skiing and your nights hitting the bars. And just when you think you’ve had enough, you start the ritual all over again. It turns out there’s more to skiing than just hitting the slopes.
