Contributor’s Guidelines
How to submit, What to submit, Where to submit

Life IS Full is a disability lifestyle magazine dedicated to promoting an active disability culture.  We are interested in disability-related news articles (on culture, civil rights, or the lack thereof, access, no access, and technology), personal interest stories (please, no self-promotional pieces, and we can sniff them out….), cartoons dealing with crips and humorous social interactions (as an example), provocative editorials, product reviews, sports-related stories (spectator or participant), and the occasional poem.

We also like unique, provocative, and compelling photographs of people in action; digital images of art painted, sculpted, twisted or molded by the Disabled; scanned images of hand-drawn art; and anything else you can think of that you think we’d think would look cool online.

Life IS Full editors reserve the right to alter the content and format of a story (excluding opinion columns) in any way deemed necessary to be consistent with Life IS Full standards, as previously established by the editorial staff.  In other words, we can change it, but the story is still yours.

Here’s a simple list of rules, er, guidelines to follow when writing a story for us:

  1. Do not use any intentionally derogatory labels, like ‘cripple,’ ‘freak,’ ‘crip,’ ‘spas,’ ‘gimp,’ ‘retarded,’ ‘reject,’ ‘deformed,’ ‘confined to a wheelchair,’ ‘afflicted,’ ‘victim of,’ ‘special,’ ‘deaf and dumb,’ or ‘mute.’  However, if you are using these terms in a fraternizing manner, as when one African-American may call another African-American a ‘nigga,’ or when one homosexual may refer to another homosexual as a ‘fag,’ then feel free.  Words can’t hurt when they’re not owned.

And if you’re going to use ‘the disabled’ … please, for pete’s sake, use a capital D!

  1. We accept submissions of stories and articles from anyone belonging to the disability community.  Whether you walk or roll, hobble or stroll, slur your words, or pee through a tube into a bowl, we want to hear from you, if you’ve got a story to tell.  However, you should be able to write, somewhat.

  1. We don’t want to hear any sob stories.  We don’t publish pity parties.

  1. Please submit your idea for a story in an outline form, with a lead paragraph, or just send the first 400 words of the story (about a page).

  1. Submit all stories/ideas via the submission form below.  Please, no attachments!  Attachments are for artwork/photographs only.

    6.   At this point in time, we do Not pay for submissions.

Submission is not a Sin
