Left leg, below-knee amputation; right leg, below-knee severed and reattachment; diabetes and high blood pressure
2. Challenges of Having a Physical Impairment:
Learn how to live everyday with discomforts; not being able to jump out of the bed in the morning or walk out of bed for emergencies; having to take time to put the prosthetic/medical devices on or need of using crutches; accepting the loss of ability of not being able to jump and run; having to protect my body from sores, taking medicine, and wearing appropriate clothing
3. Education: A.S. in Petroleum Safety and B.S. in Petroleum Services
4. Employment: Retired / part-time ski instructor (PSIA Level 1)
5. Interests / Hobbies:
Sport activities include wheelchair basketball and skiing; member of the local men’s civic club and Antique Automobile Association; hobbies include electronics, metalworking, restoring cars and general handyman; also, volunteer with (3 Trackers of Ohio) -- a non-profit organization providing adaptive recreational sports to persons with or without physical disabilities
6. Life’s Ambition / Goals / Passion:
To live to be 90 years old and raise my family; finish restoring automobiles and refurbishing the house
7. Advice “Life’s Lesson”:
Motto: Live life for today, Save for tomorrow! Enjoy your family and friends with laughter and enjoyment. Look to the positive and not the negative; the positive will bring you joy. Don’t be afraid to make your two-legged friends look bad by doing things they can’t do. Life is a challenge. Don’t look at your disability as a handicap, look at it as a challenge to succeed and overcome as a personal achievement.
